If Cars Could Talk

This event is no longer on sale.

Tuesday October 13

6:00 PM  –  7:00 PM

Description:

Each day Pierce County drivers pass along part of a once-grand racetrack and don’t even know it. The Tacoma Speedway operated between 1912 and 1922 on a track that looped through what is now Lakewood’s commercial core. It rivaled the best tracks in the country and offered the largest purses in hopes of drawing racers to the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. America’s top drivers, including Barney Oldfield, Eddie Rickenbacker, Ralph DePalma, Gaston Chevrolet and Jimmy Murphy, raced at Tacoma, and their lap speeds there rivaled those at the Indianapolis Speedway.

The legacy of Tacoma Speedway is largely lost to history, but you can learn about the Speedway, the men and their machines at the first Virtual If Cars Could Talk on October 13!
